INTENSITY

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines exercise as planned physical activity aimed at improving physical fitness. This definition highlights 2 critical elements:

  • Intentionality: Exercise is purposeful, with the specific goal of enhancing physical fitness.

  • Structure: It follows a deliberate plan or routine.


The body is a “use it or lose it” enterprise. If not challenged, it will revert to its pre-training state.

  • Be intense enough to stimulate adaptation.

  • Be consistent enough to improve, or at least maintain fitness over one’s lifetime.
PRINCIPLE 002

ADAPTATION

The body adapts to our demands. Without the consistent and intense stress of exercise, the body weakens, homeostasis falters, and degeneration begins.

Exercise flips the script:


  • Strength Training breaks down muscle tissue signaling growth & increases in strength

  • Conditioning improves heart efficiency & oxygen utilization

PRINCIPLE 003

BALANCE

The human body is either in an Anabolic or Catabolic state, building itself up or breaking itself down. Aging, non-productive exercise (aka, General Physical Activities), & plain inactivity tip the scales toward breaking down. This is why proper exercise must be ongoing throughout your lifespan; to prevent deterioration and bolster your healthspan.

Numerous studies show that exercise:

  • Reduces the risks of experiencing chronic disease

  • Improves health

  • Enhances quality of life

Consistent exercise, balanced with sufficient recovery, sustains & optimizes health and performance.
